BYATA's position regarding any proposed changes to international visitor levies and taxes
10/03/2021
In support of its membership BYATA would welcome consultation and discussion with government over any proposed changes to the current IVL, bed tax and access levies model.
More clarity and transparency
is required in these areas with regards the equitable collection of funds from
all tourism operators and customers to show how these funds are distributed
fairly within local communities to provide better infrastructure in those
areas.
More data and insight is required to understand the impacts tourism taxes have on the social, environmental and cultural wellbeing of a destination.
Due to the ravishes of Covid
19 to the Youth sector of the Tourism Industry, BYATA seeks similar exemptions
to border levies and bed taxes that have been seen in European countries in an
effort to re-establish tourism in the short term.
